Code: SIS-OEM-FRP
Description
An original equipment manufacturer, or OEM, manufactures product or components that are purchased by another company and retailed under that purchasing company’s brand name. OEM refers to the company that originally manufactured the product.
Fiber Reinforced Plastic/(Polymers) (FRP) composites with fibers/fabrics bonded with organic polymers (resin system) are being referred to as the materials of 21st century because of many inherent advantages including market acceptance. In many parts of the world, application of composites in civil infrastructure projects started in late 1980, with major advances in bridges, roads, retrofitting of structures, and marine applications. In the last decade, significant efforts have been made to develop design guidelines, and construction and maintenance standards, and specifications for FRP reinforcement, FRP wraps, and FRP shapes including standardized test methods. Various researchers and organizations have been contributing to this effort to cover a wide variety of applications. In addition to providing a greater understanding on the FRP composite design, optimization, reliability, and manufacturing feasibility, this effort has revealed the end-user willingness to implement these high-performance materials because of better durability and cost effectiveness over conventional materials.
SIS understands that there are two distinctly different corporations / individuals that approach us to manufacture products on their behalf. These are firstly where a new product is being developed from its infancy and feasibility studies are being conducted on this material and secondly, where an existing product manufactured from more standard materials such as timber or steel is to be re-birthed due to either performance issues with the existing or to increase a products environmental credentials.
SIS understands that during the development process of any new product there is in most cases a fragile path of which needs to be walked in relation to the intellectual property rights associated with designs, drawings etc. SIS treats intellectual property of all its clients with the up most sensitivity and can be trusted as a development partner of any OEM component or product.
A cost estimate for pultrusion tooling for FRP components is between $3,000.00 – $10,000.00 USD.
